Digital technology provider ARM acquired Geomerics
Digital technology provider ARM has completed the acquisition of gaming and entertainment lighting technology specialist Geomerics as part of a move to strengthen its position in the visual computing and graphics industries.
The agreement will also enable Geomerics to build on its existing partnership as well as accelerate its development in the mobile sector.
ARM will able to utilise technology such as Geomerics’s Enlighten, which it claims is the first fully real-time global illumination technology and has already been used for a number of popular gaming titles.
“The innovative technologies being developed by Geomerics are already revolutionising the console gaming experience and are set to rapidly accelerate the transition to photo realistic graphics in mobile,” ARM’s media processing division vice-president and general manager, Pete Hutton, said.
“Empowering Geomerics' portfolio with ARM's graphics capabilities and market reach will be transformative for the user experiences in future mobile and entertainment devices.”
Geomerics chief operating officer Chris Doran added: “With lighting technologies developed by Geomerics, graphics artists can achieve truly realistic global illumination and other advanced lighting features in real time across multiple platforms today.
“This combination of ARM and Geomerics accelerates the realisation of our vision to bring next generation console graphics to mobile devices.
“Being part of ARM will allow us to accelerate our advanced developments for console and mobile platforms while also providing us with unmatched insights into the platforms and devices of tomorrow.”
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
