Mattrick becomes the new head of Zynga
The new Chief Executive Officer for American social and media gaming firm Zynga Incorporated, Don Mattrick, reportedly attempted to acquire a significant stake in the business three years ago.
According to a story from the Bloomberg news service, Mattrick was engaged in negotiations with Zynga founder Mark Pincus in 2010 about purchasing the developer of popular social titles such as FarmVille but these negotiations soon collapsed.
As the former head of Microsoft’s entertainment division, Mattrick was reportedly interested in strengthening the computing company’s Xbox portfolio with social games that, at the time, were adding millions of users on social network website Facebook.
The pair subsequently kept in touch and allegedly first discussed new opportunities for Mattrick at Zynga in March. Having taken control from Pincus, the new boss now faces the task of re-energising the firm after it lost top-spot on Facebook to King.com following a trend of users switching to mobile smartphone and tablet apps.
