Major League Gaming launches MLG.tv

major league gamingUS professional electronic sports organisation Major League Gaming (MLG) has announced it is to launch MLG.tv, a new online platform that will show coverage of major e-sports events from around the world.

According to the Techcrunch.com website, MLG said that the launch of the network had been designed to help it “better monetise” its events online so it can offer a ‘TV-like linear’ programming schedule.

MLG.tv will stream broadcasts in HD up to 1080p, as well as carrying a studio that will feature both news and highlights programming.

The platform will also feature built-in Twitter chat to allow viewers to share what they are watching and see what other fans are watching.

“We’ve been streaming our events for six or seven years, we’ve done network TV, we’ve done cable TV,” MLG’s co-founder and chief executive officer, Sundance DiGiovanni, said.

Events that will feature on the platform include the MLG Championship, while it will also air content from partners such as OpTic Gaming and Gfinity.

MLG said that it plans to open up the platform to other partners in due course.
